Furniture! Danish modern, modern and American of Martinsville

Some new items.....they'll need to be cleaned and or restored....but here they are in their as-found glory.

An American of Martinville chest... It has all 6 pulls- below is the one missing off the chest- I had to clean them up.... they're copper plated brass I think.....

The box on the right by the TV is a planner group storage unit. No bench though, all they had was the storage unit. I am probably keeping this..

Danish Modern ladder back chairs. Ugly fabric it came with on the right, the mod floral on the left by the Preway is what I am putting on them....

a pair of carved South American candle sconces....

odd carved half naked, half woman.

Vintage fabrics and clothing- or- picking and grinnin'

We've had a good few weeks and that makes me very happy as the season here hasn't even started!  This year we have made a vow to be more "judicious" in our purchasing, but we still need to acquire new items as we have at least 6 shows to do this summer.

I used to sell A LOT of vintage clothing on the internets. Mostly denim, and almost exclusively overseas.  Then of course, the bottom sort of fell out of the global economy. Luckily that happened at about the same time I

A) lost interest in selling on line and
B) had very little inventory left.

so, it worked out for me. But now, I want to start up again..... and this time, I'm stepping more into the lines of home decor and vintage than true antiques. I want to sell things that people want to have in their homes, use everyday and love.

Here are some of my new pieces. These are not "for sale" pictures- if they were they'd be a lot better. This is just a taste of some of the stuff I have though....

I wish I would have known "steady Eddie" he might have been a fun guy....

This would make a mighty big wall hanging when it's stretched on bars...... it's a HUGE piece.

Another letterman jacket, this one is a smaller size, perfect for the ladies....

what appears to be an unworn vintage swimsuit. Really, I can't see where anyone ever wore this...crazy cause it's so beautiful...

I have a soft spot for vintage cotton spring dresses....

a silk mens sport coat. It's in perfect condition.

a vintage women's wool coat...

Go speed Racer, GO!

an apron. I can't tell you how many shirts I've ruined due to splatter. This makes total sense to me....

More cookware! The green set is Descoware from Belgium

a (still shiny) Magnalite roaster.

That's it for now.... more soon (I hope)

New acquisitions and finds

These are some of my new finds this week......I'll post the vintage clothes and fabrics soon....

a vintage photo of a used car lot....

a HUGE Wagner Magnalite skillet with lid, and a smaller lid (I Have  a pot for that lid..somewhere)

A Briard Flameware pot (stripes) and unknown white enamel pot with fish (1970's?) and a solid orange Lax bowl.....

A primitive handmade doll china hutch.

There's more, but I"ll post again soon!

Selig Chair....

So here is my latest purchase....

Selig Chair by Peter Hvidt

It's pretty rough, so rough I had to sand it before I would allow anyone to touch it. Gross. I think it was in someones kitchen. I have the cushions so I can make new ones (using the old ones as the patterns) and it's in good shape. It came apart quite nicely (just like it was supposed to) and it will make it easier to re stain it when the weather breaks.

Depending on how it comes out in the end will determine weather I sell it this summer at Allegan, or keep it myself..... I have a lot of furniture this year for the Antique show at Allegan, but I can always make room for more!

2013 is the year!

That we set our minds to really moving along our vintage stock. No more hoarding for me! (those shows scare the socks right off me!)

De Laval Cream seperator

what it looked like when we found it at a sale....

what we did with it. I didn't fix it, clean it or remove any rust.

It's perfect on the porch as a fern stand. It weighs around 60 pounds I'm thinking so it's sturdy. I thought about bringing it inside, but if it tipped over it would kill someone! Outside it stays.

Brown Saltman of California Walnut and glass tables by John Keal

They are end tables. Cubes of Walnut with smoked removable glass tops. They look wonderful alone.....

but I have three...and put together like this they make a spectacular low media console.

I JUST got them today....and they need to be cleaned up.....but they'll be up for sale next spring at the first show of the season that doesn't snow.

Do you ever wonder.....

about the people that you see in vintage photographs? I always wonder how pictures of peoples families end up on the secondary resale market. I would NEVER allow a picture of my ancestors to slip through my fingers......

I have no idea who this is. But we love him.

Projects

I have a few....right now we're working on 2 Heywood Wakefield tables and two Thonet chairs. I also have another danish modern chair waiting in the wings to get fixed.

I'm busy if you can't tell.

I will post some pics this weekend though.

We have one last show to do next Sunday and then a small one the month after- then we are done for the season and I'll be back on Etsy.

drippy glaze green pottery bought in two different states!

so here's the odd thing. The two vases I bought in Texas around 11 years ago at a thrift store. This summer I bought the two coffee mugs at a church rummage sale. Crazy huh? No markings.....so I don't know who made the mugs. The artist who made the vases was "myers" I love them, I wish I could find more that look like this....

Dressers and signs oh MY!

First up- this is just one dresser of a pair that I have just acquired. They are Pine Shop. Probably from the late 1960's. Pine Shop was a very nice line of furniture made in the central Michigan area. They were located in Big Rapids from 1950 to 1987.  They are well (ish) known in the state, but outside....not so much.

These are small, 3 drawer chests.....

Below is a sign from Evart Michigan. It was falling apart so I had to mount it on some old barn wood I had hanging around. I love it though like this, it's far more decorative...

She's so pretty.....

Store display head and shoulders...probably from the 40's

and he's not so much......

I honestly don't know who he is or who made him. But he's cool.

Because I need more chairs in my life- a pair of danish modern side chairs!

Yep. A pair. I still haven't moved them since I got them in the house. I don't exactly know what I am going to do with them. I suppose I will end up selling them. Here they are-

The upholstery is in good shape, the wood is ok- these were massed produced I believe- not teak. The name plate is gone off of both of them, although I can see where the tag was originally. I have to do some more research.

well, off to buy more stuff!

Serving up today....

two great items....

the first is
an old menu board from a place called the "eat"

She's a big one- measuring in at 47x30...

Next, if you feel a little sick....

an old first aid kit. Holes on the back to hang on the wall, but it also comes with a metal handle in case you need to take it somewhere...

More soon!

what I do, who I am...

I sell dead peoples stuff. Mostly. Some stuff comes from people who aren't dead yet.....but not as much.  Fabric, industrial, primatives, glass, pottery and mid century modern. All are fair game. I do a bit out of Ebay and Etsy in the winter, but mostly I set up at flea markets, antique shows and my own house. I do ok for myself. This is the only job I have.

I am the chief procurer. I am the salesperson. I am the set up and tear down. It's a small business, but I like it. It keeps me busy. I get to buy stuff. I then have to sell stuff....but it all works out in the end.

This will have some updates on sales and I'll post pics of my finds. I'll have a link one day to my Etsy shop and maybe even Ebay if they aren't being a butt about things.

More soon.

Happy Days....
